The fairways behind Sunset Whitney aren’t a golf course anymore. The City of Rocklin bought all 184 acres, renamed it the Sunset Whitney Recreation Area and opened the trails. For a lot of homes, that means dog walkers and stroller pushers now pass your back fence all winter. So your Rocklin house gets looked at from both sides. Sunset Whitney Christmas light installation can cover the street side, the trail side or both, and you never touch a ladder. Reach us at (916) 642-7382.

Front for the street, back for the trail

Most families begin with roofline lights on the front: eaves, the garage, the peak over the entry. If your yard backs to the old fairways, think about the rear eave as well. One clean line along the rear of the house is what evening walkers notice, and what you see through your own back window. We hold both runs with clips sized to your gutter or roof edge. Staples and nails don’t come into it.

Not sure if your back roofline can be seen from the trail? Step out there at dusk and snap a picture looking back toward your house. Send it with your front photo.

Ranch houses, two-stories and roomy lots

The neighborhood was built in the 1980s and 90s. It’s a mix of three-bedroom ranch-style homes and four-bedroom two-stories, many with a Mediterranean look, on lots of a quarter acre or more. The streets loop, which makes for plenty of corner and curve lots with a long side yard on display.

A single-story ranch is the friendliest house there is to light. The whole roofline is at one height, so the result looks crisp and even. Two-stories take taller ladders and more planning at the peaks, and that’s our problem, not yours. If your roof is tile, mention it so the right clips come along.

Pines, oaks and what goes on the ground

Pines and oaks shade these streets, and they’ve had forty-odd years to get big. An oak trunk with a snug spiral of lights and a few lit limbs looks wonderful. Pines are trickier. Their bark sheds and the lowest branches often start high, so on a pine we usually keep to the trunk. Either way, lights are tied on and never fastened into the wood.

Needles and leaves are part of life here in December. We run stake lighting along paths and bed edges where a rake or blower can still get around it, and we route cords so they aren’t buried under the next windstorm’s drop. The same goes for pillar and column wraps on the porch, a lit wreath on the garage gable and, at the front door, lit garland: all tied or hung from removable hooks, all on a timer.

Is there an HOA? Not one we found

We found no neighborhood association for Sunset Whitney, and the detached homes we looked up carry no HOA dues. That means no association light schedule for most of you. The attached homes inside the neighborhood may have an association of their own, so if you live in one, check with it first. City rules still apply to everybody: nothing in the public right-of-way.

Sunset Whitney Christmas light installation, start to January

Call (916) 642-7382 with a description, or text or email your photos, or drop them on the contact page. We quote from those, no visit required. Pick your week, and we arrive with everything. Homes off Midas Avenue and the blocks by Johnson-Springview Park and Twin Oaks Park are regular stops for us, along with Clover Valley just up the road and Stanford Ranch across town.

In January we’re back. Every strand, clip, stake and timer leaves with our crew, and your shelves stay empty. A dead section before then? Tell us at (916) 642-7382 and it gets replaced. The trail walkers will notice the night the lights come down. Take it as a compliment.

    Sunset Whitney families ask

My rear roofline faces the old golf course. Is it worth lighting?

Yes. Many yards back to the former fairways, now the Sunset Whitney Recreation Area, and a rear roofline shows well from the trails. Send a photo taken from behind the house and we’ll include it in the quote.

Does Sunset Whitney have HOA rules on Christmas lights?

We found no neighborhood association, and detached homes we checked show no HOA dues. Attached homes may have their own association, so those owners should ask it directly.

Can you wrap a pine tree?

The trunk, yes. Pine branches often start too high to reach, so a trunk wrap is the usual choice. Oaks let us go out onto the main limbs.

Will pine needles and leaf cleanup wreck the stake lights?

We set stakes and cords along edges where you can still rake or blow around them. If a stake gets knocked loose, call and we’ll reset it.
