Newcastle kids who ride the bus down Taylor Road know which houses are lit by the first week of December, and they will tell you about it at dinner. If yours isn’t one of them yet, a Newcastle Christmas light installation from us fixes that: lights the kids can spot from the car, and a lit path up to the door once you park. Candy Cane Christmas Lights is about eight miles down the road in Rocklin. Quotes are free at (916) 642-7382.

Newcastle Christmas Light Installation on Acreage Off Wise Road

Head north toward Wise Road and Gold Hill and you get into orchards, horse ranches and bigger parcels, with houses set well back from the pavement. On a lot like that the roofline alone can get lost, so we start with the drive in.

Stake lighting along the driveway is often the single best thing you can do on a rural lot. It guides guests (and grandparents who don’t know the turnoff) right to your door. We ask about drip lines and sprinkler heads when you call, flag them on install day, and set the stakes where the mower won’t catch them.

Tree wraps matter more out here too. Oaks and old orchard trees near the house take a trunk wrap well, and a couple of wrapped limbs show from the road even when the house sits back. If you’ve got a gate, pillar wraps on the posts make a nice welcome, and a wreath hung on the gate tells visitors they’ve found the right driveway.

The Roof, the Power and the Timer

Roofline lights still anchor the look. On composition shingle we clip under the shingle edge or onto the gutter. On tile or metal we use the clip made for that surface, and nothing gets drilled.

On country properties the outlet is the hard part. It can be far from the spot you want lit, and a barn or shop may be on its own circuit. We work it out with you on the phone (a photo of the outlet helps), keep cords tidy and off the paths, and hook everything to one timer. The house lights itself once the sun drops and shuts off at whatever hour you pick, so nobody walks across the yard in the cold to unplug it.

Old Town Porches and Chantry Hill

Closer in, the older homes around Old Town Newcastle, near the shops on Main Street, go back more than a century. Deep porches, wood trim and railings are made for garland wound along the rail and a wreath on the front door. We don’t nail or staple into old wood. Clips and soft ties hold everything, and they come off clean.

Up around Chantry Hill, home of a ballpark that’s been in use since 1901, the streets climb and the houses sit at different heights. A roofline that follows the grade looks great lit, but it takes careful ladder footing on a slope. That part is ours to worry about. Along Ridge Road, the lots are wooded, so one wrapped trunk near the driveway usually does more than extra roofline. Over toward Ophir, the old orchard country west of town, a lot of families have a barn or an old shed out back, and a lit barn roofline is a big hit with kids coming up the drive.

Fixes Through December, Takedown in January

Wind and wildlife come with foothill living. If a critter chews a strand or a storm knocks a section loose, phone (916) 642-7382 and one of our crew heads up the hill to fix it. We work Penryn, Loomis and Auburn all season, and Newcastle sits right between them. Our Penryn page covers the neighboring side of the hill.

In January the crew comes back and takes every light down. You never store a bin, and nothing hangs on the roof into spring. For more on lighting a long drive, see our stake lighting installation page. When you’re ready, send the address through our contact form or call (916) 642-7382. Tell us how long the driveway is, and we’ll have the stake count ready before we hang up.
